Blended from vineyards in Stellenbosch and in Durbanville (nearer the coast) where the bush liners are over 40 years old.
Grape variety:
100% Pinotage; two thirds is given a year in French oak – but the aim is primarily to capture the open, juicy fruit of the grape.
Producer:
Klein Zalze (‘litte salt’) is owned and managed by ex lawyer Kobus Basson. Winemaker since 2014 is Alastair Rimmer whose impressive CV includes a viticulture degree at Stellenbosch University before experience at Overgaauw, Agusta and Vergelegen in South Africa, Spy Valley in NZ, Juan Gil in Jumilla, Diablo Grande in California, Belvidere Estate in South Australia, and finally as Head Winemaker at Darling Cellars.
