“The Loire is littered with cellars full of old wine, if you know where to look. Until the mid-1990s, Domaine de Pouvray was owned by Gilbert Vincendreau. On retirement, he sold it to his ouvier viticole, Sébastien Bozon, who now delivers most of the estates wine to the local co-operative. It’s quite usual in these parts for vignerons to squirrel-away wines from the best vintages to help support them through leaner years or, as in this case, to fund a retirement plan.
Perhaps more like a petit-moelleux, this has around 30 grams of residual sugar, but there is an incredible freshness and texture to the wine.”
