Alcohol percentage: 13.5%
Area:
Lugana is just south of Lake Garda, west of Verona. Ca’ Dei Frati are close to the tourist-friendly town of Sirmione. The area is flat and warm, with clay soils – not promising for vineyards. But the combination of the cooling effect of the lake and great vineyard management makes for outstanding wines.
Grape variety:
100% Turbiana (previously called Trebbiano di Lugana) and 50 year old vines. Half the wine is matured for 6 months in French oak, the rest kept in stainless steel.
Producer:
The Dal Cero family have a large estate of 160 hectares, the biggest and most respected in the area.
The Bottle Shop rating:
This brilliantly combines the easy-drinkability of almost all Italian whites with nutty richness and real complexity.
