Alcohol percentage: 19.5%
Grape variety:
Made from a blend of indigenous Douro black varieties – of an average age of 90 years (led by Touriga Nacional) – all the components were foot trodden at the Vale de Mendiz winery before aging and blending in Vila Nova de Gaia, Oporto on the cooler Atlantic coast. Bottled unfiltered and unfined, in June 2013.
Producer:
Niepoort has been an independent family business since 1842. The Niepoort lodges are located in the historical center of Vila Nova de Gaia; where Port wines are aged in old casks, bottles or demijohns. Dirk Niepoort is the charismatic current leader of the family brand.
Vintage:
2011 is one of the finest years in the modern era of Vintage Ports, and with 10 years of bottle aging this is just entering its drinking window. Deep in colour, warming, and not too sweet (104 g/lt residual sugar) it has benchmark purity and intensity, bold back cherry liqueur fruit, liquorice, and soft spices.
