Alcohol percentage: 11.5%
Area:
Touraine is in the central part of the Loire Valley, chiefly famous for the twin villages of Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé. Domaine des Echardières is situated in the the larger region further around, on the left bank of River Cher, which comes with the advantage of a better price-point than the regions famous siblings.
Grape variety:
Equal quantities of Gamay, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Grolleau and Pineau d’Aunis make up this unique blend.
Producer:
Luc Poullain bought Domaine des Echardières and its 16 hectares of vines in 2000. He was 30 years old at the time and with an interesting career path, having studied agriculture in Bedfordshire, UK. Never shy of making bold moves in winemaking (as seen in this rosé that captures five different local Loire grape varieties) he was recently the brains behind the newly created Touraine-Chenonceaux appellation.
The Bottle Shop rating:
Only the initial press juice is used in this wine which captures the purist liquid. A pale, bone dry, rosé with modest alcohol.
