Alcohol percentage: 13.5%
Area:
The 2020 harvest started with very dry winter and spring (driest in 100 years). These dry conditions continued throughout summer. Good rainfalls in February provided much needed moisture. Very low crops resulted but there was exceptional concentration and purity of fruit in the reds.
Grape variety:
85% Cabernet Sauvignon 15% Nebbiolo
Producer:
Cherubino is a modern-day producer established in 2005 by husband and wife team Larrry and Edwina Cherubino – based in Margaret River in Western Australia. They have holdings in Margaret River, Great Southern, and Pemberton, and Larry oversees all the winemaking.
Vintage:
Part of their outward looking thinking and winemaking is to construct dynamic and innovative blends of grape varieties, rather than a solus varietal approach. None more so than in this intriguing blend of “Bordeaux meets Barolo” and two iconic black grapes Cabernet Sauvignon and Nebbiolo.
Made in a clay cement ovoid tank – a giant “egg” in effect – the lees are continuously forced upward by an internal current resembling a vortex. This gives the wine voluptuousness, purity, and texture. There is no sulphur used throughout the winemaking, and only a very small amount at bottling.
Each variety is fermented separately before the component parts (Cabernet 85% and Nebbiolo 15%) are blended prior to bottling.
Maturity potential:
Enjoy now and over the next 2-3 years. No need to decant but could open to breathe for an hour or so before pouring.
The Bottle Shop rating:
Enjoy now and over the next 2-3 years. No need to decant but could open to breathe for an hour or so before pouring.
