Alcohol percentage: 12%
Grape variety:
100% Pignoletto (AKA Grechetto Gentile). Fermented twice in tank (the ‘cuve close’ method0 and bottled while still fresh and young.
Producer:
Villa Cialdinia is part of Az Ag Castelvetro, a family-owned business (for 150 years) between Bologna and Modena (as in the balsamic vinegar) in central Italy.
They took on around 50 hectares of Lambrusco vineyards and built a new winery solely for the production of high quality sparkling red wine, part of a gradual, more general restoration of the image of this historic wine style.
It also made sense to revive interest in another historic and indigenous variety from the area – the white Pignoletto, of which they have just 7 hectares.
The Bottle Shop rating:
Fresh and lively but also soft and delicate. This is so much more interesting (but just as easy to drink) than the majority of the ubiquitous Prosecco being sold today.
