Pouilly Fuissé is central, geographically and spiritually, to the Mâconnais region. It’s a warm, relatively sheltered group of vineyards on multiple hillsides, producing wines of richness and intensity, a serious step up on the more ‘easy-drinking’ style of the majority of the region.
Grape variety:
100% Chardonnay, matured for a year, half in tank and half in oak barrels (but no new wood, the wine is rich enough without any ‘oakiness’).
Producer:
Domaine Ferret is a classic small (17 hectare) estate in the heart of Pouilly Fuissé. Family-owned for many generations, it was bought in 2008 by Maison Louis Jadot, but still run as if an independent producer. Winemaker since then has been Audrey Braccini.
The Bottle Shop rating:
From the warm and ripe 2018 vintages this is classic Fuissé – intense and powerful, but not overdone or heavy in any way.
